Agathonissi is the most northern of the islands in Dodekaneserna. It's
a small island both when it comes to numbers inhabitants and the area,
here lives approximately 110 persons distributed on three villages. The
port Agios Georgios is the "big" the tourist town, other villages
are Megalo Chorio and Micro Chorio, both lies on walk distances from the
port. In Agios Georgios there are four pensions, three restaurants, two
cafés and a small minimarket. In Megalo Chorio there is one restaurant,
a kafenión and two minimarkets. Mikro Chorio is very small; if
you close your eyes for a second you will miss the village. The beaches
on the island are of decent quality; best is the one in the port.
Agathonissi is a perfect island for everyone that wants to escape from
stress, read many books and for everyone who can to amuse themselves.
Getting
there
Simplest is to fly to Samos and further on with ferry. Agathonissi
have connections with Samos, Arki, Patmos, Lipsi, Patmos and Kalymnos
every second day - the year around - with the small ferry Nisos Kalymnos.
During high season there is a Flying Dolphin to and from Samos a couple
days a week.
Accommodation
The range is limited, but it comes so few tourists that finding
a room is not a problem. Except in August of course, then you must reserve
in advance. I can recommend Glaros (Seagull) close to the small beach.
Five spacious and fresh studio's, all has balcony and AC. In same house
exists Glaros Taverna where you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. A
lot of good food and low prices. The owners - Jannis and Voula - do everything
for their customers.
